Act
Serve
on your school board
Eligibility
A candidate for the school board must be a resident of the school district and a registered voter for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the election.
School board elections are nonpartisan, so candidates may not run as members of a political party.
No person who has been convicted of a sexual offense against a child is eligible to serve on the school board.
How to become nominated
If you are interested in seeking to run as a school board candidate, you must collect 25 eligible electors’ signatures of the school district in districts with fewer than 1,000 students or 50 eligible electors in larger districts.
The nomination petition must be filed with the designated election official of the school district no later than 67 days before the election.
It is suggested that over 25 signatures are collected just in case a signature(s) is rejected.
It is also suggested that you contact your local school district office for more information. Colorado’s MAD can help you with this process. Please contact us using the contact form on this page.
